4-Hydroxybenzoic acid is a white powder crystal, tasteless, odorless, and has a tingling sensation when tasted. Easily soluble in hot water and alcohol, ether, acetone, slightly soluble in cold water and benzene, insoluble in carbon disulfide. In addition to being effective against fungi, p-hydroxybenzoates have stronger antibacterial properties than benzoic acid and sorbic acid due to their phenolic hydroxyl structure. The characteristic of p-hydroxybenzoic acid esters is that their toxicity is lower than that of benzoic acid, and their antibacterial effect is independent of pH value. However, due to its low water solubility and unique odor, its application in food preservation is limited. In addition to being used as a preservative for food, it is mostly used as a preservative for drugs and cosmetics
Application:
This product can be used as an intermediate of antiseptic, dye, medicine and injection molding, and can be esterified with alcohol. It is also the main raw material of macromolecule liquid crystal polymer and the raw material of pesticide intermediate.
