Function:

Salicylic Acid is light pink to light brown crystalline powder, odorless, slightly sweet and then pungent, no change in air, sublimation under normal pressure above 76°C. It is easy to decarboxylate under normal pressure to form phenol and carbon dioxide. Its aqueous solution is acidic and purple with FeCl3. This product is slightly soluble in water, soluble in boiling water, easily soluble in ethanol or ether, slightly soluble in chloroform.

Application:

Salicylic Acid is a disinfectant and antiseptic drug, which has the effect of dissolving skin cutin. It is used for local keratin hyperplasia and skin fungal infection. It is used to prepare distilled spirits for external use to treat keratin and psoriasis. Its sodium salt can be used for antipyretic, anti-rheumatism, and analgesia. It is also used as a raw material for dyes, spices, rubber and food industries.
