2,2-Bis(hydroxymethyl)propionic acid was first synthesized in 1901, with a new pentyl structure that connects one carboxyl group and two primary hydroxyl groups on the quaternary carbon atom. The new pentyl structure gives it good heat resistance and photostability, and can be used as a crosslinking agent, emulsifier, dispersant, and curing agent. It is widely used in fields such as electrodeposited coatings, epoxy coatings, inks, chemical intermediates, and photography

2,2-Bis(hydroxymethyl)propionic acid can be used as an important raw material for chemical products such as coatings, adhesives, and resins. It can also be applied in leather based materials, liquid crystals, inks, food additives, and adhesive chemicals. Used for preparing polyurethane emulsion type leather finishing agents, photosensitive resins, magnetic recording materials and their adhesives.
