Function:
1,10-Phenanthroline Hydrate is a chemical substance, soluble in 300 parts of water, 70 parts of benzene, soluble in alcohol and acetone, insoluble in petroleum ether. It is a metal chelator that prevents streptozotocin-induced chromosomal aberrations and is also a commonly used redox indicator. It is a bidentate heterocyclic compound ligand, which can form complexes with various transition metals. Since the formed complexes are chelates, they are relatively stable. The complex formed with copper and its derivatives can be used as non-oxidative nucleases because they have certain cutting activity on DNA, and thus have certain anticancer activity.
Application:
- Used as a redox indicatoranda reagent for the determination of ferrotitanium.
- Used for the photometric analysis of copper, the determination of ultra-micro blood sugarand the extraction of platinum.
- Used for the colorimetric determination of divalent iron, platinumand palladium. When complexed with copper, it has nuclease activity and has been used to study DNA-protein interactions.
