Application and Preparation of Hydrazine Sulfate

What is hydrazine sulfate?

Hydrazine sulfate, also known as hydrazine sulfate, is a red scaly crystal or orthorhombic crystal. It is stable in the air and susceptible to alkali and oxidizing agents. There is a strong reduction. The hydrazine produced by the oxidation of ammonia with sodium hypochlorite can be obtained by reacting with sulfuric acid, or directly by reacting hydrazine with sulfuric acid. Used in gravimetric determination of nickel, cobalt, and cadmium, purification of rare metals, and separation of polonium and tellurium. and precipitation of chlorates, hypochlorites, and carboxyl compounds. It is also used to make isoniazid, nitrofurazone, hydrazine, anhydrous hydrazine, etc. Also used as a reducing agent, pesticide, sterilizer, etc.

Application of hydrazine sulfate

The industrial role of hydrazine sulfate:

Raw materials such as azobisisobutyronitrile. It can also be used as a reducing agent, mainly used in metal surface treatment, analytical reagents, and also used in the purification of rare metals.

Hydrazine sulfate agricultural role:

Used as an insecticide, fungicide, etc.

Hydrazine sulfate medicinal effect:

Brain tumors: Taking hydrazine sulfate along with chemotherapy improves neurological symptoms in patients with brain cancer. It may also help reduce tumor size in people with a specific type of glioblastoma.

General weight loss and wasting are associated with cancer. Early research suggests that hydrazine sulfate might slow weight loss in some people with cancer.

Hodgkin’s disease (lymphoma). Some research suggests that hydrazine sulfate might slow the progression of advanced Hodgkin’s disease.

Nerve cancer (neuroblastoma). There is some evidence that hydrazine sulfate may stop the growth of neuroblastoma.

The preparation method of hydrazine sulfate

Method 1:
Use chlorine and sodium hydroxide to prepare sodium hypochlorite, then react with ammonia to obtain hydrazine hydrate, and finally dehydrate to obtain hydrazine, then react with sulfuric acid to obtain hydrazine sulfate:

Method 2:
Using hydrazine hydrate as raw material, hydrazine sulfate was synthesized by dropping concentrated sulfuric acid. Specific steps are as follows:

1) Dilute a certain amount of hydrazine hydrate (80%), then add it into a four-necked flask, and slowly cool down in a low-temperature bath.

2) Add 98% concentrated sulfuric acid into the dropping funnel, and slowly drop it into the four-necked flask, keeping the temperature in the flask at about 0-10°C. And use pH test paper to measure its acidity and alkalinity, when the pH value is 5-7, the dropwise addition can be stopped.

3) Cool down the solution slowly, stir slowly, and keep warm for 2 h, a white solid can settle out.

4) Add an appropriate amount of methanol to the mixed solution, precipitate, and filter to obtain a hydrazine sulfate solid.

Method 3:
The preparation method of hydrazine sulfate comprises the steps:

1) Using butanone and ammonia as raw materials, air as oxidant, PdCl2 and CuCl2 as catalysts, formamide, and sodium bromide as cocatalysts to synthesize butanone azine;

2) separating the upper oil phase containing botanizing from the water phase containing the catalyst;

3) Adjust the pH value of the separated oil phase to 1-4 with acid, and the butanone azine is acid-hydrolyzed into hydrazine salt and butanone;

4) Adjust the pH value of the solution containing hydrazine salt to 9-12, the hydrazine salt is neutralized by alkali to form hydrazine hydrate, all the hydrazine hydrate and water in the solution are distilled out, and the distillation condensate is hydrazine hydrate solution;

5) Adding concentrated sulfuric acid to hydrazine hydrate to obtain hydrazine sulfate, cooling and crystallizing, suction filtration, washing, and drying to obtain the product hydrazine sulfate.

Method 5:
A kind of preparation method of superior grade pure hydrazine sulfate, concrete preparation steps are as follows:

1) Add pure water into the glass-lined reactor, stir, and slowly add 98% sulfuric acid under cooling. Add 80% hydrazine hydrate at 70-80°C and filter while hot, wherein the mass ratio of pure water, 98% sulfuric acid, and 80% hydrazine hydrate is 10:10:4.

2) The filtrate is adjusted to PH=4-5 with sulfuric acid or hydrazine hydrate and stirred for 20-60min. When there is no change in pH, cool and crystallize to 25°C, centrifuge to separate the crystals, wash with absolute ethanol, and air-dry at room temperature to obtain the finished product. The preparation method has a simple process. On the basis of the industrial method, a preparation method of the chemical reagent hydrazine sulfate is developed, and the product quality reaches the standard of high-grade purity, which is suitable for the needs of large-scale industrial production.
