Function: 

Ethyl L-pyroglutamate is a white to cream colored low melting point solid form, which is a non-natural amino acid derivative. Non-natural amino acids have been used for protein modification in bacteria, yeast and mammalian cells, and they have applications in basic research and drug development, bioengineering, and are widely used for detecting structural changes in proteins, drug coupling, biosensors, etc.

Application: 

Ethyl L-pyroglutamate can be used as a pharmaceutically active molecule and as an intermediate in organic synthesis, such as the synthesis of biologically active molecules HIV integrase inhibitors. In the synthetic transformation, the nitrogen atom in the amide group can be coupled to iodobenzene or the hydrogen on the nitrogen atom can be converted to a chlorine atom.
