Function
It is obtained by oxidation, alkali hydrolysis, acidification and decarboxylation of ethyl 4-hydroxybenzoate (ethyl paraben). Easily soluble in ethanol and ether, soluble in benzene and petroleum ether. It is used as an intermediate in organic synthesis.
