It is white deliquescent crystalline powder. The relative density is 4.5. The melting point is 394°C. The boiling point is 650°C. The heat of vaporization is 118 kJ/mol; the heat of fusion is 16.70 kJ/mol. The refractive index is 1.5452 (20°C). Soluble in water, alcohol, ether and acetone, alkali metal hydroxide solution.

Application: 

1. It is used as good completion fluid, cementing fluid, battery electrolyte, etc. in offshore oilfields.
2. It is used in pharmaceutical industry and photography industry
3. Nuclear Reaction Window Protection Screen. Silver bromide colloidal emulsion was prepared for photography.
