Function:
Flame retardant function: Tris (2-chloropropyl) phosphate (TCPP) is a highly effective flame retardant. The phosphorus and chlorine atoms in its molecular structure play a key role in the combustion process.
In some polymer materials, TCPP also has a plasticizing function.
Synthesis
TCPP is industrially synthesized by reacting propylene oxide with phosphoryl chloride. This process typically yields a mixture of products, with the tris(2-chloro-1-methylethyl) isomer being the predominant component (50-85% w/w).
Application:
It is one of the most commonly used flame retardants in polyurethane foam (PU foam). TCPP can be easily mixed with polyurethane raw materials during the production of polyurethane foam.
It also has certain uses in the production and application of PVC. As a flame retardant, it can enhance the flame retardancy of PVC products (such as wire and cable sheaths, plastic pipes, etc.).
It can be used as a flame retardant finishing agent for textiles. Through appropriate treatment methods, TCPP is attached to the surface of textile fibers or penetrated into the fibers, thereby giving textiles flame retardant properties.
Key Advantages:
- High Flame Retardancy: Inhibits combustion through gas-phase and condensed-phase mechanisms
- Excellent Thermal Stability: Decomposition temperature >200°C, suitable for high-temperature processing
- Low Migration: Good compatibility with substrates, minimal leaching
- Eco-Friendly Alternative: Partially replaces traditional brominated flame retardants
