Function:
Mercaptoacetic acid is an organic acid that is a colorless and transparent liquid with a strong unpleasant odor. It is miscible with water and can be dissolved in ethanol and ether. It is soluble in ordinary solvents and rapidly oxidizes in air. When exposed to open flames and high heat, it burns and emits highly toxic hydrogen sulfide gas. It is mainly used as a raw material for blanket finishing agents and cold ironing liquids.
