Function:

EDTA has the function of buffering the pH value of the solution to a certain extent.

EDTA can indirectly act as an antioxidant by chelating metal ions. Many metal ions (such as iron and copper) are catalysts for oxidation reactions. EDTA chelates these metal ions and prevents them from catalyzing oxidation reactions, thereby helping to protect easily oxidizable substances, such as in foods and cosmetics, from oxidation and deterioration.

Application:

Complexometric titration: EDTA is the most commonly used titrant in complexometric titration. When analyzing the content of metal ions, the concentration of metal ions can be accurately determined by titration by utilizing the property of EDTA to form a stable complex with metal ions.

As a food additive, EDTA is mainly used to prevent food oxidation and discoloration. It can chelate metal ions in food, inhibit oxidation reactions catalyzed by metal ions, and extend the shelf life of food.

In the water treatment process, EDTA is used to control metal ions in water. It can prevent metal ions from scaling on the surface of pipes and equipment, and also inhibit the corrosion of metal materials by metal ions.

In the textile printing and dyeing process, EDTA can be used to remove metal ions in water to prevent the influence of metal ions on the dyeing effect. At the same time, it can also be used as an auxiliary agent to improve the solubility and stability of dyes, making dyeing more uniform and brighter in color.
