Function:
Improve heat resistance: Adding boron to glass and ceramics can reduce the thermal expansion coefficient of the material and improve the thermal shock resistance, so that borosilicate glass can be used to manufacture high-temperature resistant laboratory instruments, cookers, etc., and ceramics can be used for linings of high-temperature industrial kilns after adding boron.
Optimize processing performance: In some alloys, boron can improve their processing performance such as casting and forging. For example, in aluminum-boron alloys, boron can refine the grains, making aluminum alloys easier to shape during processing and reducing processing defects.
Application:
Plant growth regulator: Boron is one of the trace elements necessary for plant growth and development.
Alloy additive: Adding it to alloys such as steel, aluminum, and copper can improve the properties of the alloy.
