Function:
1. Benzoyl peroxide is a strong oxidizing agent that can oxidize many organic and inorganic compounds.
2. Benzoyl peroxide can be decomposed to produce free radicals, which can effectively trigger polymerization and control the rate of polymerization to a certain extent.
Application:
1. Used for the production of polystyrene, and also for the synthesis of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA, plexiglass) and other plastics.
2. In the vulcanization processing of natural rubber and synthetic rubber (such as styrene butadiene rubber, butadiene rubber, etc.), Benzoyl peroxide can be used as a vulcanization agent or vulcanization accelerator to improve the comprehensive properties of rubber products.
3. It can promote the curing reaction of coatings and adhesives, improve the hardness, adhesion and chemical resistance of the coating or adhesive layer.
4. In the field of medicine, it is used to synthesize some drug intermediates with specific structure and function.
