Function:
Participate in cellular energy metabolism: AMP is an important intermediate product of intracellular energy metabolism. It can be generated by ATP hydrolysis, and can also be converted with ADP under the action of adenylate kinase, thus playing a key role in the generation, storage and utilization of cellular energy.
As an activator or allosteric regulator of 5′-adenylate-activated protein kinase (AMPK), AMPK is an intracellular energy sensor that is activated when cellular energy consumption increases, thereby regulating multiple metabolic pathways
Application:
Disease treatment: Since AMPK plays a key role in regulating cellular energy metabolism and maintaining cellular homeostasis, activators or regulators targeting AMPK have potential application value in the treatment of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer and many other diseases.
Food industry: AMP has the property of suppressing bitterness and can be used as a bitterness masking agent in food to make low-calorie foods more delicious. This application has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Cosmetics: Some derivatives or analogues of AMP may have antioxidant and anti-aging effects, and can be used in the research and development of cosmetics and added to skin care products to improve the health and appearance of the skin.
